We are developing some new parts to allow more flexible step-up ratio and loading choices - something that will take some time to do right. We expect to resume production of the MU in fall 2007. We are very sorry for not having continuous production to ship product from.
MU
This top of the line step-up transformer is designed to step up the signal level of low output moving coil phono cartidges. MU is installed such that the cable from your tonearm is plugged into the RCA input jack on the MU enclosure and the short integral cable is plugged into your phono stage. The MU Step-Up can be configured to 14db, 20db, or 26db of gain to match the requirements of your system
The MU Step-up system consists of 2 enclosures - one per channel. Each is a small 3-1/2" diameter custom machined cylinder 4" high. This is designed to be placed behind or next to your phono stage such that the integral cable can plug directly into your phono stage's RCA input. The standard cable length is 8" (other cable lengths are availiable on request). This design provides a clean and short signal path and allows for easy swapping of load resistors via 'mini binding posts' on top of the enclosure. It also provides excelent shielding to assure ultra quiet operation.
MU was not designed to meet a price point. Only the finest parts availiable are used and we do our best to keep MU affordable by selling direct and keeping our margins as low as possible.

Load Resistor Package
Finding the optimum load for your cartridge is an important step to optimizing the performance of your system. The manufacturer of your cartridge likely has a recomended load and this is a good starting place but you may discover that a different load better suits your system or your personal listening preferences. Bent Audio can work with you to pick a load range to play with and send 12 pairs of load resistors to allow you to quickly and easily experiment with cartridge loading. The Load resistor package is included with all MU units. The cost for an additional load resistor package is $20.00.
Optional Gain Select Toggle
Our preference in all things we build is to keep the signal path as clean as possible. This means not putting extra switch contacts in the signal path when they are not needed. For most customers the transformer can be configured for a fixed gain level and never need to be changed. This level is most often the 1:10 (20db gain) stepup ratio. This level of stepup takes a 0.5 mv cartridge and makes it look like a 5 mv cartridge. Sometimes for low output MC's or phono stages with low gain the 1:20 (26db gain) stepup ratio is used. This ratio basically turns a 0.25mv cartridge into a 0.5mv cartridge. The 1:5 ratio is rarely used. After talking with a few customers who swap cartridges on a regular basis (sometimes with removable arm tubes, etc) we now offer a toggle switch to select between the 1:10 and 1:20 stepup ratio's. These very high quality switches are similar to those we supply for source selection in our 2 input TX102 pre-amp kits (Only our cost is much higher on the 4 pole version needed here ...). This 'toggle selectable gain option' costs $65.00 per pair.
