OEM / DIY TAP Modules and Parts
Introduction This series of TAP System Modules and parts can be used in DIY and OEM pre-amp designs. These parts the 'guts' from our TAP products - with the same high quality and attention to signal path considerations. These modules are not 'kits' or 'bags full of parts'. They come completely assembled and fully tested as a system prior to shipment. See the OEM/DIY Instruction Manual (link below) for complete descriptions of each front panel PCB and Attenuator Module option. This page is just a quick overview and a list of the parts and pricing.
Every TAP system has a front panel PCB + an Attenuator PCB and optionally a source select PCB. Beyond those are a few options of power supply boards to get the regulated power on to the ribbon cables, etc). These boards simply plug together on a supplied ribbon cable (the 'Bent Bus') and are assembled and tested as a system prior to shipment. Each of these board options is described below.
Front Panel PCB Options The Front panel of the TAP system is the user interface. It's this panel that receives remote (or push button) commands and sends the commands on to the attenuator and source select pcb(s). Full Width TAP Front Panel PCB This PCB has dual volume displays and individual leds for source select indication. A high Quality optical Encoder is used for level control and push button control of display/tape/mute/source up/source down are included.
PRM-1 PCB This small 1-3/4"W x 1-1/4"H PCB controls all TAP functions via remote and has small buttons for level up/down on the front of the PCB. This is the PCB used inside the PRM-1 Module and the MicroTAP controller. The small cable plugs into either the mating PRM-Power PCB or the Goldpoint BSA-1 PCB. It can be ordered with or without the PRM-1enclosure.
PRM-1 Module
The above PRM-1 PCB packaged in a machined aluminum enclosure. This can be mounted in place of any existing volume pot / knob in the same 0.375" mounting hole.
Remote Handset
The Remote Handset is included with all Front Panel PCB and module orders.
Attenuator Options The Attenuator is the volume control for the system. All Attenuator modules feature 1db volume steps and extremely high quality parts used throughout. Slagleformer Module This is our premium attenuator option. It is the same unit used in our TAP-X pre-amp and it has all the same features and specs. Notable is the 1db step size - unheard of for an autoformer or transformer volume control! Two modules are required for stereo operation
Hybrid Resistor Attenuator PCB A great option for OEM/DIY active pre-amp systems. 1db steps from -60db up to unity gain. The circuit is a modified shunt type - with the clean signal path of a shunt type attenuator but the input impedance stays much more constant over the level control range. Two modules are required for stereo operation
Goldpoint BSA-1
A great '2 channel on one pcb' option. Like all the other TAP modules it has a 1 dB step size and only one board is needed for stereo use. Latching relays are used for low current operation. Stack two of them to create a two channel true ballanced attenuator.
Stack two BSA-1 PCB's to create a two channel true ballanced attenuator.
Input Select PCB To add input selection simply plug this pcb onto the TAP ribbon cable. All front panel choices will allow input selection to function. Also included is a place for outputs (with mute relay) and a switched tape output. One pcb will switch 6 inputs for both right and left channels. Naked Input Select PCB Hardwire your selection of RCA jacks to the PCB and you are ready to go.
Input Select PCB with RCA Jacks Jacks installed and ready to attach to your back panel (or the back panel of a FLEX chassis).
Power PCB Options These small PCB's accept DC power (8Vdc to 15Vdc) and then regulate that down to the 5Vdc needed by the TAP modules. Each has a ribbon cable header to get this power onto the BentBuss ribbon cable connecting the TAP PCB boards together. Note that if you are using the Goldpoint BSA-1 PCB in the system (see above) then you do not need a power supply board - that PCB has the power supply built on board. Internal Power PCB This PCB accepts power from on board terminals and has jumper for display normal/dark mode and also terminals for an HT bypass button. This is the power supply option to use with the PRM-1 Module - as it has the small header to attach the PRM-1 cable into. Shown above with and without a PRM-1 mounting plate attached.
Example of PRM-1 Module with Internal Power PCB. The Internal Power PCB attaches inside the front panel directly to the PRM-1 mounting shaft.
Back Panel Power PCB As used in TAP products this PCB is designed to accept power from an external supply via a back panel input jack. A display toggle and an HT bypass push button are included. It's a bit tricky to make the required back panel cutout by hand but for OEM use or FLEX chassis applications it works just fine. This PCB can also be mounted internally on standoffs if you'd like.
